Special guest speakers are Khalil Rahal, Assitant County Executive at Wayne County and Melissa Daub, Wayne County Commisioner in District 10.

Khalil Rahal is the Assistant County Executive responsible for overseeing all economic development activity, managing HUD funds, manages the facilities and real estate while leading the County’s legislative work in Washington D.C. as well as Lansing. In addition, Rahal works on reducing property tax foreclosures in Wayne County by coordinating foreclosure prevention efforts with the Wayne County Land Bank and leads the County’s efforts on regional issues such as Public Transportation. In 2018, Khalil was recognized as one of Crain’s 40 Under 40, awarded to those Detroit area leaders recognized as making a significant difference in their communities. In 2019, Khalil was also recognized as one the 50 Names to Know in Government in Crain’s Detroit Business Magazine and was the 2019 Medalist of the Year recipient by the Michigan Economic Development Association for his work in Economic Development.

Rahal has also served as Ombudsman and FOIA coordinator for Wayne County from January 2015 until October of that year.

Prior to joining the County, Rahal served as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office from January 2010 until January 2015. Assigned to the Special Victims Unit, Rahal was involved in over 1,000 criminal cases, specializing in sexual assaults and domestic violence.

Rahal is a graduate of the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Law. Prior to going to Law School, Rahal was a special education teacher in the Grand Rapids public school district.

Melissa Daub is serving in her first term in the Wayne County Commission. She represents District 10, which comprises Canton Township, Plymouth Township, and the City of Plymouth. A graduate of Plymouth-Canton High School, Commissioner Daub holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University. She has an extensive background in the accounting field in both leadership and individual contributor positions. Commissioner Daub is a proud member of the Michigan Democratic Party, Canton Democratic Club, and Plymouth Democratic Club. She has held several volunteer leadership roles with Cub Scout Pack 1738 and served as a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Hulsing Elementary School. Commissioner Daub lives in Canton with her son, Dominic, and their little dog, Larry.

In January 2019, Commissioner Daub was appointed to serve on the following committees for the 2019-2020 legislative session for the Wayne County Commission:

  • Vice-Chair, Audit Committee
  • Health & Human Services Committee
  • Committee on Public Services
  • Committee on Public Safety, Judiciary, and Homeland Security
  • She also serves on the Rosa Parks Memorial Task Force
