IREM Welcomes New AMO Firm

May 6, 2025

American Surgical Group
Bloomfield Hills, MI
Executive CPM: Mr. Jay Pollard, CPM®

Establishing and managing a new Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) can be daunting. There are complex regulatory requirements, critical timelines to manage, and risks of costly, catastrophic hurdles before you’re able to open the doors. This is exactly where American Surgical Group (ASG) comes in. Led by Executive CPM, Jay Pollard, the ASG team works hands-on to offer complete and customizable multi-specialty solutions to start surgical centers and grow existing locations. The synergy provided by American Surgical Group creates more time to focus on patient care, while enjoying improved operational efficiency. This means ASG’s physicians can focus fully on delivering exceptional, world-class, and cost-effective care to patients from the very first day of operation.

According to Jay Pollard, this collaboration between ASG and its management team “offers the ideal setting for our physician partners and staff, ensures the highest standards of patient safety and a positive patient experience, all the while laying the foundation for sustainable growth moving forward.”

Congratulations to Sameerah Merriman who won the contest and received a $250 gift card courtesy of Zolman Restoration and The Fourmidable Group, AMO! Women Leaders: Making a Difference in Your Culture and Workplace Environment - How can you make a difference? Read her winning entry below.

In every field of business, there will always be learning curves. New knowledge is always nearby when you have an open mind. You have to become ready to absorb information at any given moment. One of the key skills of good leadership is communication. The exchange of concepts, ideas, understanding and information are some skills that can host a wonderful work environment. Talking about communication does not simply imply speaking, but rather includes such skills as effective conflict resolution, a clear plan of action and projecting the by best path for success. A good path of establishing strong work relationships and influencing other individuals is positive communication that gives clear understanding and successful directives. Communication involves numerous attributes and implies that you should focus on the general goals to achieve what the desired work place goals and visions are. Be transparent in communications so that the recipient of the information is not confused. As a result, the performance of your team always heads in the right direction.

Be able to solve issues and to have critical thinking skills service as good work place leadership skills. Being able to solve various problems, asking important questions that revolve around a specific problem, gathering, and assessing all the relevant information, and making a well-thought conclusion will help you gain trust and respect from the people you work. Having the capability of thinking with an open mind in regards to various consequences and assumptions associated with numerous decisions will also lead to better decision-making skills and presents the path of success. Being open-minded, allows you to learn objectively and fairly as possible on the basis of the available and relevant information pertaining to a particular issue. Understand that any potential biases there may be and appropriately guard yourself against them. Problem solving and critical thinking skills are awesome to have and does wonder for comfortable work environment.

You have to be confident with your decision making. There is no doubt that successful leaders are confident. Once you become focused on your objective and have learned all the inner and outer details of what you are pursuing, your hard work becomes your passion and it manifests into confidence. You have to be confident about making and committing to your decisions. To succeed in gaining the confidence and understanding the issues at stake and be prepared with the information you need to choose the best path for success. Be aware that you may fail sometimes, but do not fear making decisions you believe will have a positive impact on your leadership as this is what defines your leadership as a phenomenal woman.

In conclusion, your work place should be somewhere you enjoy and something you enjoy doing. My father used to tell me: “Understanding is one of the best things you can get with another person but it is also the hardest things to get; and that is what makes it so valuable to have.” Communication and understanding places you on the path to the type of success you envision for yourself. There will never be an easy journey towards good achievements. Understanding that I am the master of my own destiny, choices and pursuits of happiness. I am able to do the work while thinking outside the box to figure out how to get things done. I love playing with technology, being able to control and/or manipulate data gives me. I am still learning how to make all of my actions have positive effects on my outcome. Learning how to make my actions and conversations clear and consistent to produce a lucrative work place environment. The people that you work with gather positive motivation from positive achievements. Those are the instances in the work place where your have the best influence on people, that will push them to achieve greatness at their job.  These are some of the things that will allow me to take full flight with my education and career. Learning how to eliminate wasting my time and efforts on things that are not beneficial to me. Learning to keep positive activities around me and minimalizing unproductive behaviors. Positive energy, a network of people and a good understanding of what’s aligned in front of you. Good accountability will empower you to have positive outcomes on your processes and pursuits. Growth will come with experiences and working with those that know more about what is it that you want to do. Steel sharpen steel, you get better when you are challenged.
